TPF Ambassador: Margaret McGuire

We're excited to introduce our 2019 class of The Patachou Foundation Ambassadors, an incredible group of people who have committed to share our mission and have a collective fundraising goal of $70,000 in one year to help feed hungry kids in Indianapolis. We hope you enjoy getting to know each of them through this series.

Maggie McGuire is a senior at Guerin Catholic High School and is raising money to provide more scratch-made meals to kids at IPS 54.

Why did you decide to become a The Patachou Foundation Ambassador?

I was given the honor to become an Ambassador for the Patachou Foundation from my close friend, Madelyn Filer. As an ambassador last year, she inspired me to become involved, and her passion for the program has encouraged me to also become a part of this great foundation. As I continue to grow older, I have come to realize how truly grateful I am for my life, and I want to give back to my community by providing these children with basic necessities. When I was younger, I never thought about what many children go through at a young age, and this foundation has opened my eyes to the difficult times some children and families go through within my own community.

How did you first hear about The Patachou Foundation?

I first heard about The Patachou Foundation through one of my best friends, Madelyn Filer.

What speaks to you about The Patachou Foundation's mission?

The Patachou Foundation's mission has inspired me to help my community. Before becoming a part of this foundation, I was not aware of the vast number of children who do not receive proper nutritious meals in my community. Helping people that live in the same area feels rewarding, and it is great to see that my time and energy is being put into something that helps those around me.

Do you have any stories to share about your time as an Ambassador so far?

This past year, my lacrosse team went undefeated, and we decided to make sweatshirts. We ordered the sweatshirts through an organization that donated 40% of the funds to The Patachou Foundation. It was neat to see my team’s willingness to participate, and it was a small, but helpful, way to raise money and help my community.

What is your favorite family tradition involving food?

During the Christmas season, my family bakes Christmas cookies. My mom and I bake them together, and each member of my family has their “special cookie.” Baking cookies is a great way to spend time together during the holiday season, and it always results in delicious treats!

What was your favorite snack as a child?

Pretzels

Anything else you'd like to share?

It has been an honor to be a part of this foundation, and it has taught me many valuable lessons. Although fundraising is difficult, it is extremely rewarding, and I look forward to the events I have planned for the rest of the year. I am proud of this foundation and the work it is doing, and I cannot wait to see these children grow into healthy, nutritious adults.
