Volunteer Spotlight: Bridget K. Houser

Bridget K. Houser moved to Indianapolis five years ago to start her teaching career and she currently teaches at one of the Montessori schools in IPS. "One of my favorite things to do in Indianapolis is to try all of the new restaurants," she says.How did you first hear about The Patachou Foundation?I found out about the Patachou Foundation through Instagram. I was looking for an opportunity to become more involved in my city and liked that volunteering with TPF allowed me to combine my loves of working with children and great food.What do you love most about volunteering with The Patachou Foundation?My favorite part of volunteering with The Patachou Foundation is being able to make connections with the students, whether that is remembering names from week to week or recollecting a story that they shared in the past. That is what good dinner conversation is all about.What’s your favorite memory or story from volunteering with The Patachou Foundation?I had the opportunity to lead a group of Food Explorers at School 58. They were a group with lots of personalities, so we had fun. At the end of the semester, they got to showcase all of their skills by making turkey wraps for everyone. As they were serving dinner, one of the students commented he wished he could give them 5 thumbs up for how good the wraps tasted. The looks on my Food Explorers' faces were priceless.What school do you typically serve and can you tell us about it?I typically serve at School 58 and TGNS.
