2017 Summer Recap

Lesson: Making a salad togetherThis summer, The Patachou Foundation served nutritious, kid-friendly meals to hundreds of Indianapolis students at four summer camps across the city. Not only did we eat yummy food together, our team of volunteers formed relationships with kids around the table.

In addition, we helped teach weekly food lessons to students such as kitchen cooking basics (like how to safely hold a knife), using fruits and veggies in smoothies, how crops grow and how to make a salad with homemade dressing. With your help, we inspired students to think differently about the food they are eating and to feel empowered to make healthy choices for the rest of their lives.Students at the microfarm on a field trip. With the support of the Summer Youth Fund, IU Health via Playworks, Hotel Broadripple and Public Greens, The Patachou Foundation led three field trips to the Public Greens microfarm to learn about the importance of bees and pollinators, to taste veggies like gold and candy-striped beets straight from the ground and to find fun new ways to stay physically active.Students learning to be a beekeeper at a field trip.
